Monday, a day of searching

Today I spent most of the day searching. I had my usual Monday chore of wash, but as soon as it was done I headed to the local library and started doing more research on our family tree. I have to admit though that I didn't get a lot acomplished this time. I think it was because it was my first time searching that I didn't find much. Plus the library's computers are set up to time you and kick you off after an hour. I think that is because of the kids who stop in after school and used to spend hours on the internet.

Now that I have some information, I do want to get it entered into the family tree software. I did find a census card for my great-grandfather, so I want to attach that to the family tree. I'm hoping I can enhance it enough, and maybe get more information from it. As of now I can barely read it. I guess I really didn't do as much today as I thought I did. It just seemed like it since it took me a while to get set up so I could use the library's computers to do the free searches....

Sunday, a day of work & Bears

Well, today didn't start to good. I was asked to do the EOP for this month, so I came in early to get it done before I had to open the stand. When I got there I couldn't find form I needed, so I asked one of the office workers, and he couldn't find them either. So he called Diana, and asked her, and found out she couldn't print them yesterday, and was coming in later in the day to print them. So I headed to my stand and set everything up.

After I had everything set up, I did the EOP on blank paper. I figured that way if I got the form really late, I would just have to copy some numbers. Well, I didn't get the forms too late, and was able to copy the numbers over pretty quickly. So that was kind of a good thing. I hurried up to get my stand closed so that I could head home and get ready for the bears game.

That was a dissappointment. After Saturday's game which was a great win, they lost 0-1 last night. The only kind of good thing about last night was it was autograph night. But Hershey never can do anything right. They advertise that you will go onto the ice at two stairways. Well, they didn't use the one, they used a different one. So yet again they changed what they are advertising. Then when you get to the ice its totally disorganized. Instead of just having the players lined up around the ice, and one line that works its way around, each player has his own line. So there is just a jumble of people on the ice... I've decided I'm going to start up a patition online, and get people to sign it if they agree with me...

Saturday, a day to catch up, work & Bears

Ok, I know I fell behind a few days with my blog. I guess I got too busy the last few days to post. So I'll try to do a recap of the days, and get up to date.

Thursday

I'm not sure why I wasn't able to post on Thursday. Sitting here thinking about it, I can't think what I did all day long that prevented me. I know I had to do some minor errands, and we went out to eat, but other then that, I can't think of anything else I did. So I guess I'll go on to Friday.

Friday

On Friday I did do a lot. It started off with going out to breakfast. We like to eat at Bob Evan's, but we've never gone there for breakfast, so we started off with that. Then we headed over to Chocolate World. We haven't done that in a while, so thought it would be a good change. We took the tour ride, and walked around there. Then we headed over to the zoo. Since I had the day off, and I'm soon not going to have weekdays off, we decided to get at least one more trip in before the full season starts again. Since it was such a nice day, it was nice to just walk around looking at the animals. We did something we've joked about a few times, which was get pictures of every animal.

Then we did some usual Friday things, like grocery shopping. But later that night when we turned on our TV we found that the color was flickering really bad, and that is a lot of times an indication that the TV is going bad. So we headed out to look at TVs. We ended up going to Target and getting a new one. But the one we got was bigger then the one we had, so it wouldn't fit on the entertainment center we used to have. So we found a new entertainment center we liked, but this one didn't have enough shelves for everything we have, so we looked for a cheap set of book shelves, and got them to hold the rest of the stuff. So we came home, and spent until midnight setting everything up.

Saturday

Today was a busy and annoying day. It was Boy Scouts day at the zoo. We were swamped with kids. Most of which don't know the slightest thing about money and tax, and have no respect at all. I've always thought they taught you that in Boy Scouts. I guess they don't anymore. I ended up getting out later then I wanted from work because of it, which made me have to rush to get home and get changed for the Bears game.

Now the Bears game was amazing. It started off with Aucoin scoring early in the first, making it 1-0, then about half way through the first Bourque scored making it 2-0. Late in the first Aucoin
scored again, his second of the night, making it 3-0. History was made in the second period as Alexandre Giroux first tied then passed Tony Cassolato's franchise record for goals in a single season. Giroux scored the 4th and 5th goals of the night. Graham Mink picked up a goal in the second as well, scoring his 32nd of the season, a new career-best. During this time the Sound Tigers scored twice, making the score 6-2 at the end of the second. Andrew Gordon would score the final goal of the game in the third, and bring the final score to 7-2. This puts Hershey further in the lead for first place.

So after this exciting night, and long day, I think its time for me to head off to bed....

Wednesday, a day for an aniversary

Ok today is my one year aniversary. I have to admit that it hasn't been all fun. Somewhere there is a mistake with our check book, and we've spent most of the day trying to find it. For some reason we can't though. Everything appears to be right, but we have almost a twenty dollar difference between our amount and the bank's when we reconcile it. I guess if we can't find it we'll have to go to the bank and see if they can help figure it out.

We also went to the Hershey Bears game tonight. It was a really good game. It didn't look good with Toronto taking a lead in the first when Andre Deveaux scored the first goal of the game. But then early in the secong Alexander Giroux scored his 51st goal of the season, and tied the game. Toronto then scored two more goals, bringing them to a two goal lead of 1-3. The Bears came back scoring two of thier own to tie it up in the second. Then with about 12 minutes to go in the third Oscar Osala scored his 23rd goal of the season, and the game winning goal for a final score of 4-3. It was a really good game, that brought us back into first place.

Tuesday, a day of work

Today was a day that I had to work all day. I helped catoring with the catoring of the Giant Foods Corp. managements meeting. It wasn't that bad of a day. For being high up people for Giant Foods, most were actually really nice. I mainly helped with two caterings through out the day.

The first one was in the Green Room. That one was for some of the really high up people. And for that one we went in to set it up before they were left in, and we couldn't clean it up until after they left. Hershey didn't want anyone seeing us and getting offended.

The second one was for the families and friends, and the store managers, for the fastest baggers. They ran three rounds of bagging contests to get the top three people from the area. I'm not totally sure, but I think the top three go from here to Las Vagas to compete. I'm not sure what the fastest one wins in the end though.....

Monday, a day of updates and chores

I spent most of today doing updates and chores. I recently got the idea to start a family tree. I then found that one of my uncles was working on one before he died. So my Aunt, his wife, said she would give me all his work, and let me take it from there. So now I'm trying to get all the known updates into it. I hope I can take it a few more steps then he already has.

I also had a ton of chores to get done today. I had my usual monday tasks such as my wash. Plus I wanted to do some cleaning up around the apartment. It actually didn't take me as long as I thought it would to get all the chores done. So I was also able to do some relxing for a little while.

We went to Pizza Hut for dinner tonight. We haven't eaten there in a long time. It was pretty good, but our waitress was a little clumsy. She dropped the salad dressing on the floor, dropped a fork. I'm not sure if it was her, but someone knocked down a whole stack of cups and they went everywhere. It was kind of funny. We also saw an old coworker while there.

I guess the rest of tonight will be getting my PDA working again and watching Heroes.

Sunday, a day of work & rest

Today is yet another Sunday I have to work. Like yesterday I'm going to type stuff throughout the day. That worked out pretty good. Now onto what happened so far this morning. I stopped at vault to pick up the stuff I need to get from there, and the guy came right to the window with it. So I thought it was going to be a quick stop, well I was wrong. Instead of the guy passing the stuff through the little door to me, like he should have, he stood there looking at it for a few minutes. Then he walked into the back, where I can't see him. Twenty minutes later he comes back, and finally gives me the stuff. I have no idea what he was doing or waiting for. So that had me running late now, and I knew I needed to make another stop.

So when I got to the second stop I had to make, I knew I would now have to hurry. Well that didn't happen either. Everything was moved around, and I had to search for what I needed. Once I found it, I headed to my stand.

I came in to find the ceiling was still leaking, and it migrated closer to the safe. This means I have to now get wet to count money. I hope they can get it fixed soon. Since I was running late I got the money setup, then opened. I was right in figuring I wouldn't get anyone right away. I usually don't on a Sunday. So now I took my time finishing everything, and am ready to go. I just hope I get business now.

Kids can be such a pain at times. I just lost a sale due to one. Every time his mom tried to ask a question or place her order, he would interupt her, and make her mad. She finally just walked away, pulling the screaming kid behind her, saying he wasn't getting anything. Now I'm waiting to see if they come back.

Well two hours have passed since I wrote the above section, and the woman and her son didn't come back. So I guess she was serious about hum not getting anything. I just wish I was busier. I know on Sundays, I usually don't get a lot of business until after church lets out, but by now most of them are our, and i'm still not busy. There are a lit of people out there walking around, but I guess they just aren't hungry.

Ok, I just got done with my lunch rush, and there are several things to comment on. The first one deals with kids again. If you know what you kid does and doesn't eat or drink, then order accordingly. I just had a father and daughter order. She wanted two chocolate milks. The dad asked if she was sure, and she said yes. About five minutes later the mom brought the milk back to exchange it for white because the girl wouldn't drink chocolate.

The next thing I wanted to talked about is customer requests. I don't know why people higher up won't listen to me, but I keep taking the same requests to them, and they keep saying no. This time it was for hand sanitiser. They have it at other placed, but don't think I need it here. At least this time I didn't lose a sale. I know that happened several times over the summer. But who knows, we have a new brown tag, so maybe she'll take the request seriously.

Ok, after work I got home and checked my e-mail, and now my new brown tag has me a little upset. I know in the past I was told by our old brown tag that he never knew what was going on, and thats why he was unable to get me help when needed. Well, I had e-mailed her in the morning to tell her that I noticed there was a special event next weekend, and her response was kind of a rude one. So I've decided I'm not going to tell her anything. I'll just keep turning in the problems with the stand, and hope she fixes them. If not, I'll keep turning them in.

Saturday, a day of work & partying

Today's blog may look a little strange. I'm going to try something new on days I work, and type sections on my PDA throughout the day...

So far work has been screwed up, which with only being open weekends isn't unusual for a saturday. The first thing I noticed when I came in was one of the plastic covers to the lights was on the ground broken and wet. Now last spring we had a problem with the ceiling leaking, after a few months it stopped, and they said the problem was fixed. Well here we are back to spring, and its leaking again. This time its into a light, and by our safe. And the safe area is almost in public view. If the leak moves much further, it will be dripping in the main serving area. So I made that known to maintenance, and they said they would look into it.

Then comes the register problems. I tried to sign into the register, and got an error message about the virus database being more the 90 days old. So it wouldn't let me log on to the register. So I had to call IT about it. Of course its a weekend so no one was in and I had to leave a message. Surprisingly they called me back in a matter of minutes. But, like usual, something had to go wrong. Every time the guy from IT would login remotely, it wouod kick him back out. Finally he was able to get in and fix it. So that problem was solved.

Then me Icee machine started blinking, which means the CO2 is out. I was lucky to find I had another full one, so I was able to switch it, but now I'm on my last tank. So I either need to get someone to order me more tanks, or get my bulk tank refilled. All of thatbwas before I opened this morning.

Since I've been open its been slow but steady. I've had a few big sales, but mostly small one item sales. I hope the day keeps up like this so I am able to preclean. Then when its time to close, I will be able to get out on time...

OK, the next part I'm going to type I know isn't "politically correct", and it may offend some readers, but I have to say it... If you are going to be living in America, learn to speak English. I just had two customers of a different nationality, I won't say which one. They spoke such broken Engligsh that I had to have them repeat what they were ordering five times before I realized they were ordering two cheese pizzas. Then once I figured oyt their order, I told them it would take five minutes for me to cook fresh ones. Well, they didn't understand this either, and I spent almost they whole time trying to explain to them why they were waiting. Now, I'll admit they could just be visiting, but I don't think they were.

The rest of work was pretty uneventfull. Then I headed home, and got changed and drove up for the surprise birthday party. It was for my mom. They used the excuse that it was for our wedding aniversary, since the one year mark in on Wednesday. My mom knew something was up though before she got there. Her one sister didn't send her a birthday card, which is unsual. Plus when she got there she noticed the decorations said "Happy Birthday" on them. So that kind of clued her in. But she liked it. It was pretty fun. But until we got cleaned up from it, and we got home it was getting late again. I'm really hoping the late nights soon end.

Friday, a day of cooking and decorating

Today I spent mainly cooking and decorating. In the morning I had some usual Friday different tasks to do. I had to do my banking, and things like that, but most of the day was spent cooking. I had to defrost six pounds of hamburger. Then chop onion and green peppers. Then fry it up to make some hamburger BBQ. I think the cooking part of it only too me about an hour and a half, but it seemed like it took me all day.

Then in the early evening we headed up to decorate the church for the party. I think that went pretty good. It took us about 2 hours to get it all decorated. I really thought it would take longer, but it didn't. I just have this feeling that when we get there today the tape will have given lose, and most of the decorations will be on the ground and we will have to rush to put them back up. Oh well, if we do, then we will.

Then of course we had to finish up our normal friday chores, which were things like shopping. So until we got back down home, and got to the grocery store, and got that done it was getting late. So yet again tonight will be another late night. So I think I'm going to end this, and head to bed....

Thursday, a day of baking

Ok, I didn't really do to much today. In the morning I did the few chores I had to do around the apartment. Then I got caught up on the reading I wanted to get done. I then spent most of the afternoon and early evening baking.

I/we were baking mini muffins for a party we are going to be going to. I won't say what the party is, or where since its a surprise and the person its for could read this blog post. Originally we planned on making 100 mini muffins, but it turned out that we got a lot more out of the packages of mix then we thought we would. So we have nearly 200 of them now.

Then I spent most of the rest of the evening catching up on the shows we've been recording. I had 3-4 hours of shows to watch. So now that that is all done, I think its time to head to bed...

Wednesday, a good day

Well today was a pretty good day. I was able to catch up on some of my missed sleep. So that was a good thing. But what made it really good was when we went to visit the person in the hospital. When we got there we found out that their one test turn out really good. And they were checking a few other things. Depending on what was found, they told us the person could be discharged. Well the nurses on the floor didn't think that would happen last night. And while we were there visiting we were going to walk down to get a drink, and the nurse was on the phone talking about discharge information. Then she looked at us and smiled, and said the person would be going home. So that was a really good thing. So at about 7:00 the person went home. So now I think our late nights are over. And now we can catch up on our sleep. Well, I know htis is kind of another short one, but its time for me to hit the bed...

Tuesday, a brightening day

Today was an interesting day. I knew I had some errands to run, but first I wanted to print out some pictures. The person we've been visiting in the hospital wanted them. But of course my computer had to fight with me. So that had me running late. So I was in the shower, and I heard the fire siren blow, which isn't too unusual. But what was unusual was that someone was banging on my apartment door only about five minutes later. So of course I thought something was wrong, and I flew out of the shower, quickly dried and dressed. I checked the front door and no one was there, so I looked out back. There were a bunch of guys in the back yard, but it wasn't the fire company. So I figured it was just a coincidence, but I went out to see if it was them knocking.

They were from a tree removal agency. The landlord hired them to removed the four trees in the back yard. We've actually been asking him to do that for a while now. The other winter we had an ice storm, and limbs were breaking off of them. They were knocking to get us to move our cars. I moved my car and my motorcycle. Cathy was at work, so I didn't have to worry about hers. He couldn't get the guy in the downstairs apartment to answer his door though. And the landlord gave him the phone number, but he wouldn't answer his phone either. So they just started working, and hoped nothing dropped on his car.

Here is a picture of what the yard looked like from my back door before they started:
They were really quick about getting everything down. I ran the errands I had, and came back and they were about half way done. They got the last tree down around 1:30, then cleaned up and left. Here are some after pictures:
Unfortunately you can't see the saw dust and tree bits on the neighbor's car. :P They were just finishing up in that one, and here are two final pics:

As you can see it is a lot brighter out back, and that is why it was a brightening day. :)

Monday, a long day

Man today turned into a really long day.... I had my normal chores, like wash, to do in the morning. Then I thought I was going to have the rest of the day to just relax and catch up on some rest. Well, that didn't happen...

The person who went in the hospital on Friday, who we thought would be discharged today, called. The doctors found something else, and now they aren't sure when the person will be discharged. Its good that they caught it before the person left the hospital, but it sucks. For one they thought they were going home, and not they're not. Plus that gave Cathy and I a ton of stuff to do tonight. We didn't get home until about 10:30. Then we had more stuff to do after that. Now its almost midnight, and its finally time for bed... I know its short, but I need to hit a bed....

Sunday, Another day of work and Bears

Today was pretty much the same as yesterday. I had to work from 930-230, then I went to the Bears game. Work was really slow today. I only had two customers all day. So closing at 2:00 wasn't a problem. Then I came home to get ready for the Bears game.

The Bears game was a good one. It was a battle between the Bears and Bridgeport for first place. As much as I don't like Lapisto, he was robbed of a goal. It struck the side of the goal and bounced out, and the ref signaled no goal. Bridgeport ended up scoring first while they were on a 5 on 3 power play. About a minute late Borgue scored bringing the score to 1-1 for the rest of the first. About half way through the second period Osala put one into the net, making the score 2-1. The Giroux scored making it 3-1, which is how the period ended. In the third Bridgeport had their second two man advantage of the night, and were able to score, bringing the score to 3-2. The bears were able to hold them off for the rest of the night, and won the game. They are now in the lead by 1 point. WOOOO!!!

A side note to last night. I just started watching celebrity apprentice last night. I think that both Denis Rodman, and Tom Green should have been fired. But since Trump usually only fires one, I guess we had to settle for the Project Manager.

Saturday, a day of work & Bears

Ok, today was a busy day for me. I worked from 8-3:30. I wanted to clean my fryer really good. Then once my stand opened for the day, I thought it was going to be a slow day, but I was wrong. It actually was a pretty steady day today. I'm hoping the threat of rain will kind of scare people off tomorrow.

Then onto the Bears game. It was a pretty good game. It started off kind of slow. There was no scoring in the first period, and not that many shots on goal. Then in the second period Mink got two goals, giving the bears a 2-0 lead. Early in the third Grant McNeil got his second goal of the season, and brought the bears lead to 3-0. The Penguins came back with two quick goals after that bringing the score to its final of 3-2. Now the Bears are back within one point of first place, and tomorrow they play the first place team. So if they can bring up another win they will be back in first....

Friday, what a day

Man my day was just one of those days today. I didn't have too much to do this morning and early afternoon. The main task I had was some minor cleaning and then "Payge proofing" the apartment. Once that was done I was able to relax a little and catch up on my Wii fitness and a few other games....

Then I ended up spending about 4 hours at the ER. I'm not going to say much about it here since I don't know if the person who is in would want me sharing what happened. I'll just say that its mostly for the best, and hopefully they will finally find what is wrong and fix the problem.

Then came babysitting Payge. Normally she is really good for us, and she's kind of quiet. Well, not this time. I don't think she stopped talking the whole time we had her. We took her with grocery shopping, and of course she had to buy some stuff. Buddy, her dog at home, needed a new toy, so we had to get him one. She liked cup cakes with sprinkles so of course we had to get her those. Then we went to McDonalds for dinner. Well that was interesting. She wanted a chicken nugget happy meal with the apple dippers and a soda. So we got her that. She didn't want the caramel dipping sauce, but did say she wanted BBQ sauce for her nuggets. So we got her that. Well, not only did she dip the nuggets in the sauce, she dipped her apples in the sauce. We thought it was kind of grose, but she seemed to like it, and her mom said that she dips everything in BBQ. Then we got home and she wanted to play Wii. So we turned it on for her. First she wanted to bowl, but half way through it she got bored, and wanted to play something else. I think we went through 3 games in 10 minutes. Then she finally put in Family Game Night, and although she didn't understand how to play it, she seemed content until her mom came to pick her up. Now off to bed to get up early for work tomorrow....

Thursday, giving blood

Ok, most of today I didn't do too much. I had a few of my typical tasks to do. But other then that I waited until our 2:30 appointment to donate blood. We were told it was at 670 Cherry drive. Well, we couldn't find 670 Cherry drive. So we just pulled into one of the Hershey Med Center Buildings and asked where we donate at. They told us just across the street, which was Hope Drive. So we went over thinking it would be the wrong place and we would be late for out appointment before we got to the right place. Well, even if it was the wrong place they still took us.

Unfortunately Cathy wasn't able to donate again this time. They told her she had a slight fever. Her temp was only like 99 point something, and her's usually runs a little high. So we don't think she had a temp, but they wouldn't let her give. We really had the Hershey Med Center. The next time we give it won't be at the Med Center, where their employees take the blood. We're going to ask for another location.

I was able to donate, which I usually can. But the lady that took me back told me to go to the second door on the left. So I walked back, and sat down. Well, no one came in, and no one came in. So I just waited and waited. It took her about 20 minutes to finally get into the room. Then she went through all the questions, and checked my iron. Then instead of sending me back, she started asking me questions about the Hershey Bears.

Once she finally sent me back, I was a little shocked. The lady that actually took the blood didn't wear gloves at all. She just cleaned the area, put the needle in, and taped it down. Then I just sat there while it drained out. Unlike most places I've donated they also let you eat and drink while giving. Then when it was done, again she didn't use gloves. She just flicked a switch on the side of the box the needle was sticking out of, and it retracted in. Then she put more gauze over it, and had me hold it like normal. The actual taking of the blood didn't take as long as waiting for the questions to be asked.

The only other thing I did then tonight was watched the Capitols play. Although I'll admit I dosed off a few times during the game. But at least I saw what was important. They won 2-1. So now if the Bears can pick it up and start winning again. Well off to bed. I have a lot to do tomorrow. I have to "Payge proof" the apartment.

Wednesday, a disappointing night

Ok I didn't do too much throughout the day today, but I did go to the Bears game, and was a little disappointed.

Since I really didn't do too much during the day, I'll just talk about the game. Early in the first period the Falcons scored. The rest of the first was pretty boring. Early in the second Alexander Giroux scored, bringing it to a tie. Not too much else happened in that period either. In the third the Falcons regained the lead, and we thought it was over then. But Andrew Gordon tied it back up, bringing it into over time. During the sudden death over time neither team scored, bringing on a shoot out. Unfortunately Varlamov wasn't ready for a shoot out. He left three shots past him allowing the Falcons to win and the Bears the possibility of falling into third place. Like I said it was a disappointing night.

Tuesday, another day of cleaning

Today turned into another day of cleaning. I had to go back to the laundromat to do the rest of my wash I forgot to do on Monday. That didn't take me too long, since it was only about half as much as I normally do each week.

Then we had dishes that we were too lazy to do, which needed done. So I did them up. Again I was surprised, it didn't take me as long as I thought. So I got the trash together and took it down, and then did some other general cleaning. We are going to be babysitting my niece this friday afternoon, and we wanted to get some things straightened up before then.

I must have been really tired. I intended to sit up and watch the Washington Capitol's game, but I ended up dozing off. I didn't even make it to the face off. I woke up and they were in the third period. So since Comcast Sports Net always runs the game again the next morning I'll watch it tomorrow. For now I'm off to bed...

Monday, a day of rest

Ok, After my day yesterday, with work and the concert, today was a day of rest. I did have a few tasks that I had to get done, but other then that I just sat around resting all day. I did do a few things that made me feel like an idiot. I went to the laundromat to do my wash. I realized as i was putting the wash in the dryer that I only had half of it. I can't believe that i left the other half at home. I was going to go back today to finish it, but its all stuff I really don't need. So I think i'm going to just wait until next week when I go do my wash, and just get it all done then.

Other then that the only thing I did yesterday was go out to dinner. We decided to go to Applebees to eat. For some strange reason it took us a lot longer in Applebees then usual. I think it was just because we were tired, and ate slow. Not much else happening today. Tomorrow will be a busier day.

Sunday, a day of work and fun

Today was both a day of work, and a day of fun. Work started pretty much as I expected it to. I was at training yesterday, and not in my stand. So I came in today to a mess, which was expected. I spent my whole morning catching up on the cleaning that wasn't done yesterday. Then after my lunch I spent the afternoon precleaning so I could get out earlier, and have time to get ready for the concert.

Between work and the concert was a fairly normal transition. After work I came home and got ready for the concert. Then we went to Arby's for dinner. They were running a deal. One of their new Roast Burgers free with the purchase of any drink. So that made dinner fairly cheap.

Then off to the Motley Crue Concert. The first three bands were ones I really didn't want to see. I had only vaguely heard of them. Once Motley Crue came on, it was a great concert. They played for about two hours. There were some interesting people there though...

In the same row as me there were told older ladies and two younger ladies. I know at least Two were mother and daughter, I'm not sure about the other two. The older two ladies and the one younger one were really getting into it. The other one was bored stiff, and spent the whole night texting someone. I was really starting to think the one girl was drunk, but I'm almost positive she wasn't 21 so she should have been drinking.

Then there was a guy who tried to jump over the barrier and rush the stage. He just barely got over the wall and security was on him. It took three to four guards to take him out. You could tell he was wasted. He was either totally drunk or on something else...

Over all it was all a good night. ...

Saturday, A day of trainings

Today was a day of trainings for work. I had to go to two "mandatory" trainings. One was from 9am-11am, the second was from 1pm-4pm, with a "non-paid" lunch period in between. The first one was for "hospitality" training and the second was "supervisor" training.

The first one was a little interesting. Its a new thing they are trying this year. They are starting with building supervisors and up with training then how to be more hospitable to the guest, and its up to us to pass the information down to the people under us. Its a park wide process that is starting with the three departments that interact with the most guests, Guest services, Foods, and Rides.

They were doing free subs for employee appreciation day. The sign had said that all scheduled part time employees could enjoy the free subs. I had called earlier in the week and talked to someone in the Foods Office, and was told that since I was scheduled for two mandatory trainings I was allowed to go to get the free sub. Well, there was PIAA basketball in the old arena, which is where the room was that they had the free subs. So I had to argue with security to get them to let me in so I could get my free sub. They were trying to insist that trainings didn't count as on duty, and that since I wasn't in uniform they couldn't let me in. So I informed them of what the foods office told us, and he still didn't want to let me in, and I told him that if he kept arguing I would just go around back to the foods office and come in through there. So he decided to just let me in since i could get in that way anyway.

The second training just for the Foods Department supervisors was basically the same training they have every year. Of course they updated us on the new policies for this year, and any new changes for this year. We got the speech of the "zero tolerance" policy for theft, and again they are saying any theft no matter how small will be prosecuted. They are going to be starting a new "zero tolerance" policy for uniforms this year. If you come in out of uniform, you will get written up even after the first offense. You will have the choice then of either going to wardrobe to get what you are missing, or to go home. If a supervisor doesn't write a person up for the violation, and a hire supervisor sees it, the supervisor who over looked the violation will also get written up. After three violations you will get a 3 day suspension and be put on termination review. If you have another violation after that you will be fired. If the kids that get hired this year are anything like last year, we will be firing over half the staff within the first two weeks.

Friday, a busy day

Well, it was a really busy day of work today. I was really surprised. Yesterday I was at a stand that was totally dead, then today they put me at a stand that I was told was swamped yesterday and could have used more help. If they would have told me I would have sent someone down. I was overstaffed all day.

Today I was to only work until 3pm, but I ended up staying later. When they came at 2 to take me off register, and get the drawer ready for the next person, we were too busy. So I just kept working until we got rid of the line. Then I counted my money and left. I am really surprised how many people came to the PIAA wrestling.

Now I have a few complaints about some of the PIAA wrestlers. Cover yourself up.... I had several come through my line that were only wearing their wrestling outfit, and they don't hide anything. Some of these guys I really think were too excited to be wrestling, if people know what i mean... Anyway, I'm glad I'm done working it for the year. That is unless I get a phone call while at my training tomorrow and they make me go in to help out....

Thursday, A boring day

I was correct in my thinking that the PIAA would be a boring day. I worked 8 hours and probably only waited on 20 people. Lets see what tomorrow will bring...

Since its almost 10pm, and I have to be in at 6:30 tomorrow I'm going to make this a short post....

Wednesday, a messy day.

Well, I know my Wednesday is going to be a messy day. I have several things on my to do list for today. The first one is going to be working on our aquarium. We have two Red Eared Slider turtles in the tank. They are very messy animals. Usually we have to do weekly maintenance on the tank, and once a month clean the whole system completely. Well, only two weeks ago we cleaned the whole thing, and now it looks(and smells) like it hasn't been cleaned in months. So we're thinking the filter system is bad, and purchased a newer better filter last night.

So today that is one of my first tasks. Draining the tank, unhooking the old filter, cleaning the tank, and refilling it. Then hooking up the new filter. That will be my most time consuming task, and my messiest task for the day. I know the filter will be convered in turtle poop and other aquarium gunk. Once i get that cleaned up, then I'll have to clean the old filter lines, and pack it all up.

I'm not totally sure I like the new filter though. Yes it is more powerful, it will filter over double the water that the old one filtered, which will keep the tank cleaner longer. But the tubing is clear, and the filter itself is a gray translucent material. So we will be able to see through the tubes and filter, and will be able to see all the mess in it. That can be a good thing and a bad thing. If the lines get really messy, we'll have to clean them more often then we did the old lines. This will make our regular maintenance a little harder, but will help keep the tank cleaner.

After I finish with that messy task, I sill have one more that isn't the cleanest, but isn't too bad. I have some dishes to do. These shouldn't take me long, its just I like to be lazy and put off some tasks. :) I guess I should get started on my to do list, and maybe get some of my podcasts caught up for the day.

Tuesday, a stressful day.

Its not even 10am, and its already a stressful day, and it has nothing to do with my to do list. Its due to me searching Facebook and Myspace for conversations that I probably should have read. At times I wonder why people post things online, and think that the person its about won't see it.

I found two conversations on Facebook that really bothered me. One was between a person who will be a supervisor under me and an employee from another stand. Basically it says how the supervisor doesn't like working with me, and thinks that my(our) stand is disgusting, and she hates being there. Well, maybe if she would help fix the problem we wouldn't have to worry about it. She is making it sound like I am the one causing the problem.

After reading the conversations there are several courses of action that have come into my mind. The first one was to copy the conversation and pass it along to the higher up management. I'm not totally sure, but there is a possibility that the things said would fall under their new harassment policy. If that is the case then the person would be fired before the summer season started. But I don't know if I really want to get someone fired. Plus if I do that, it will cause me to have to work seven days a week, 11-12 hours a day, until they find someone else, and I don't want to do that.

Another thing I can do is just wait until she comes back to work for the summer season, and just keep on her. I can write her up for every rule she breaks. This would cause her to either have to really shape up, transfer, quit, or be fired. But again, if any of the last three things happens I'm back in the same boat I would be in if I got her fired from the start....

So I guess the other option i have is to just pretend I never read the posts, and hope things change. But I don't see them changing, and I have a feeling I'm going to act differently around her at work. And that could cause me to get in trouble.... I did send her a message asking about the posts, but I don't think I'll ever get a reply, and I'll just end up stressing out about it until I let myself forget about it.... Oh well, I guess that's just how my life goes most days....

Monday, a snow day

With working mainly weekends, and occasional Giant Center events, I tend to have a lot of time off. Usually my Mondays tend to be busy with things that need done around the apartment. But today, since its snowing, I decided to pretty much take a snow day. I have a few things that I usually have to do on a Monday no matter what, but other then that I'm just going to relax and enjoy the snow.

One of the things i usually have to on a Monday is my laundry. Since we don't have a washer and dryer at the apartment, I have to go to a laundromat. Well, after the experiences I've been having the last few weeks I decided it was time for a change. I usually go to the Oldies Laundromat, since its only two houses away. Its really convenient to be able to go put my wash in, and come home and do other things. Well that started to change two weeks ago. I was there doing my wash like usual, and one of the workers and several guys were talking. The whole time they just kept glaring at me. With out even trying to over hear their conversation, I was able to. They weren't trying to keep it quiet. They were talking about how the one runs the apartments that are owned by the same people. All I will say about that is thank God they don't own the apartment I live it. If they did I would have moved long ago.

Then last week when I was in, there were two workers, and several other guys hanging out. Again the whole time i was in they just kept glaring at me. I've never done anything, that i know of, to offend them. I decided after last week that I wasn't going back there. After hearing their conversations, and the way they watched me, I just don't feel comfortable there anymore.

This week I had to decide which of the other two laundromats in Palmyra I wanted to try. There is D&B which is only a few blocks away, and then the Laundry Basket which is at the other end of town. I decided with the snow to just go to the closer one. Its a small laundromat, but its kept clean, and the equipment worked ok for me. The only reason I may go to the Laundry Basket is because the offer free WiFi internet. I would be able to take my laptop or PDA and do some stuff online while I'm there. I think if it doesn't snow next Monday, I'll try it and see how I like it.

My only other Monday task is uploading yesterday's church service to the church's website: http://www.faithchurchwilliamsvalley.com. And that is done by the computer and I really don't have to watch it. So I will be starting that in a few minutes, and I'll just let the computer sit while I relax.

Sunday Work

Thank God this was the last day for the free Hot Chocolate. Over the last month I've given out over 5000 cups of hot chocolate. I don't think I ever want to see another cup. Of Course we got more of those "stupid people" who don't understand the concept of HOT chocolate. Plus what don't people understand about a sign that says, "We will be closing at 2:00pm Sunday March 1st. Sorry for any inconveniences."

I had to leave by 2:30 since I had tickets to the Hershey Bears game that night, so I was told to just close early. Well, people were coming up wanting to know why I was closing early. Well, they didn't need to know that, so I didn't tell them.

But then after I was closed at 2, people still were coming up asking for their free hot chocolate. For one, I told admissions I was closing early, and they had a sign posted like me. So people knew when they came in what time I was closing. Plus if they lost track of time, and got to my stand after two, there was another sign on the window. So all they had to do was look at their watch and know why I was closed. But no they couldn't do that. They just kept knocking on the window while I was trying to clean up and get out of there.
