Getting into shape - 3/13/12
Goals
I plan on setting both short term and long term goals. I started using MyFitnessPal.com to help me track my progress. One thing that it did for me is to figure out a daily amount of calories that I can eat, and how much exercise I should get. So these are always going to be two of my daily short term goals. As you can see with a bar graph of today’s calories unfortunately I didn’t make it with in my goal.
But when it comes to my daily exercise, today I’ve done more than the exercise that I needed for today.
This extra exercise does help in burning off the extra calories that I’ve consumed today.
A longer term goal I have is to get my BMI down. According to the BMI scale, I am considered obese. Now I can honestly say that I know I am over weight, but in my mind I would never say I was obese. But that’s what the current standards say. So my current “long term” goal is to get under the obese on the BMI scale by the end of the summer. I do know that I will have to adjust these goals as time goes on.
Progress
I am going to use a progress bar generated by MyFitnessPal.com. If I am reading MyFitnessPal.com right this progress bar will automatically update every time I update my weight. If this is true then as people read this blog post down the road they will see the current progress here. If it isn’t true then as you read the daily (hopefully) posts you will see my progress.
Areas to improve
I know I have some areas I need to improve on, and in each post I will list something that I want to work on. I may repeat some things in future posts, but I figure this is a way to honestly talk about things I’m doing that won’t help me get into shape. The biggest thing I know I need to do is to watch my calorie intake. I know I can do this with a few easy changes, like cutting back how much soda I drink a day. Or at least start substituting diet for some of the soda I drink.
So I hope you will continue to read my posts and follow along with my progress. And even if it is only through reading my posts, I hope this will help encourage me to get into better shape. :)
